Our Why

"After filming for a large care home company in the UK for many years, I was blown away by the number of incredible individuals I would meet who were centenarians. I did some research and discovered over 15,000 centurians in the UK alone.

 

I found that those I interviewed thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being in front of the camera, even though the topics we discussed were the dry marketing sort. With this in mind, I saw an opportunity, a chance to use my skills as a video journalist to give our elders their deserved moment in the limelight, and a good old ... I mean young, chat about their life.

 

The importance of this is even more poignant for me, I believe, after my time filming for Young Lives vs Cancer. After a number of those whom I interviewed sadly passed away shortly after our time together, I was always grateful that I got the opportunity to talk with them and capture their powerful and inspiring stories of perseverance, hope, and humanity.

 

Though we hope and pray that our centurians will grow even older and grace us with many more years, I believe the urgency to capture their knowledge and wisdom is of extreme importance. With 15,000 centurians alive every year, I could spend every day of my life filming their stories and still not have enough time to tell them all. I see this as an opportunity to use my craft to not only give back, but also to help society move forward by being a conduit of their wisdom.
